The tape is 0.045 inches thick (almost 1 mm), so depending on what you use it for, there may be a bulge. It is kind of a pain to remove the red protective layer, so if you need to fit it in a tight spot, peel of a corner first before placing it.
I've used this tape a few times and have been very pleased with it. I've used to attach a Oxo SteeL Kitchen Tool and Utensil Rack to a metal backsplash (where I couldn't screw into it) and I've also used it to mount surge protectors to the underside of desks to move it out of the way. I'm sure there are hundreds of other good uses for it, so I plan to keep a roll of it around the house. It's almost as useful as super glue, just less permanent and it isn't as much of a pain to clean up.
UPDATE (7/13/2011): I've been using this to mount the tool rack for over six months now. It does work, however the load I'm putting on it is too high and it causes the tape to creep. After about 3-4 weeks it sags enough to drop the untensils. I'm not going to dock a star because I knew I'm exceeding the load (I have several pounds on a square inch.).
I've recently discovered 3M's 4929 Very High Bond Tape. This stuff is ridiculously strong (110 psi shear). I've used it at work in high stress environments at low temperatures (-20C) and it didn't budge. This tape is (currently) not on Amazon and has to be ordered through an industrial supply company like McMaster-Carr ($20 a roll). I think I'm going to try replacing the 3M 4011 tape with this and see if it does any better.

I recently purchased additional lights to mount but ran out of this tape and needed something same day, so I went the local big box store to get some but they didn't have this version. All they had was the Scotch Extremely Strong Indoor/Outdoor black colored tape (30lb rating). I didn't read the fine print and it wasn't meant for rough surfaces and the lights fell down 2 days later. After that, I learned my lesson and ordered more of this gray Scotch Heavy Duty Exterior Mounting Tape (5lb rating). Works great, just wish they offered it in a larger roll size.
After trying all those other various "super heavy duty" mounting tapes which claimed to hold heavy loads, and be able to stick to plastic, I tried this one as a last shot. And it worked. I was able to mount the same kind of hub against smooth plastic, even an unprepared surface, and it adhered strongly. When I had to reposition it, it took force to remove it.
If there is a downside, it's that the bottom (the side you see as you unroll a piece) isn't very sticky itself. It obviously can't be as sticky as the other, protected side otherwise you'd have trouble unrolling it. But if you handle it and touch the bottom more than a few times, it quickly loses its adhesive properties and will not form a proper bond. Same thing happens if you try to reposition it multiple times. Only unroll a piece if you're going to use it immediately. Measure off a piece, cut it, then apply it and press firmly for at least 30 seconds. Afterwards unpeel the protective layer off the other side (this can be difficult) and apply to the surface you desire, once again pressing firmly for at least 30 seconds.
I cannot attest to the holding power in outside conditions, as I've only used it indoors.

I've had the camera up, with this, for about a month. It's been raining, sunny, windy...your typical British summer...and this is holding up fine.
I did play it safe and not just hold it up with one small strip, and made sure the surface was level.
I also tried it out on something else first, to make sure it worked well.
The only thing I've not tried yet is detaching the doorbell to charge. But I don't predict any issues.
Edited: it is now many months later and it's still holding it up great.
Not just that, I removed the doorbell easilly and recharged the battery 😁
Tips: I calculated the length of the tape required as per the weight of the mirror when applying it.
